It’s the case that’s making national headlines, thanks to the successful settlement between penalized art teacher Stacy Bailey and Mansfield ISD. The district will give Bailey $100,000 and a letter of recommendation after a federal judge ruled her suspension unconstitutional. The district will also include LGBTQ training for human resources employees, and vote on whether to include sexual orientation in its non-discrimination ordinance.
Bailey was an award-winning teacher, twice recognized as Teacher of the Year for Charlotte Anderson Elementary. In August 2017, she was placed on administrative leave for showing her students a picture of her soon-to-be wife during an introductory slideshow at the start of the school year, because a parent complained she “promoted the homosexual agenda.”
Hear from her attorney about the case, the settlement, and the status of Texas law concerning sexual orientation discrimination.
Then, just in time for local ISD elections, we’ll share the current ordinances of Birdville, Carroll, GCISD, and HEB independent school districts.
