July 24 General Meeting and Announcements

Happy summer, everyone! It’s getting finally getting pretty hot out there, and at MCD we’re getting ready for a heated election season!

I have a couple of quick and important announcements. First, Mike Patino, president of Mid-Cities Democrats for the last 1.5 years, has stepped down from that position as he pursues other ways of turning Texas blue. With Mike’s resignation at our executive board meeting last night, we followed the line of succession in our by-laws, and I am currently acting as president of the club during an interim period. We thank Mike for his many years of service and dedication to our cause.

With my revised role, we’ll be appointing an interim VP, and the Board and I hope to have that worked out by the time of our July meeting. I will keep you posted!

Speaking of our July meeting, it is scheduled for July 24 at Los Jimadores. As always, arrive by 6:30 if you plan to eat; the general meeting will kick off at 7 pm. At our July meeting, we have both Libby Willis and Tina Penney scheduled to speak. Be prepared for a call to action! Both Democratic candidates need your help!

For those of you who have missed them in the past few months, we’ve co-hosted fund raisers for Shane Hardin in Keller, Nancy Bean in Arlington, and Cole Ballweg, also in Arlington. I am looking forward to renewing our interest in local, Mid-Cities Democrats and progressive causes.

In closing today, I enjoyed seeing so many familiar faces at the Texas State Democratic Party Convention in Dallas last month. And, I look forward to seeing you at our July meeting and future events. Again, we thank Mike for the work he has done. Please join me as we move forward.
