March Meeting—Winning in HD 92 (2019 & 2020)

MidCitiesDems

Whether you’re a longtime voter/first time activist or a seasoned campaign volunteer, there are many ways to elect Democrats and have a great time doing it.

HD 92 is the most-winnable of Texas House districts locally and in the larger U.S. Congressional District, TX-24. There are smart Democrats running for May 2019 local races and for #TXlege and U.S. Congress in November 2020 (with Democratic Primary in March). At our March meeting we’ll hear from and discuss:

  • The HD 92 Precinct Chair Team about the data and strategy to win precinct by precinct
  • Tarrant Together’s President about the new PAC and their plans for NE Tarrant County
  • Swing Left TX-24’s blueprint pre-primary

Local Elections—February General Meeting

MidCitiesDems

We’re dedicated to electing Texas Democrats—from city hall to the Texas Legislature. At city hall and public school administration buildings, decisions are made that impact your daily life and your wallet.

Last year, we helped push back against extremists (supported by Empower Texans dark money and HD 92’s current state rep) to elect qualified candidates in Hurst, Euless, and Bedford. At this month’s meeting, we’ll hear from council members Bhojani, Cogan, and Shepard.

Bedford City Council member Amy Sabol had a grassroots win in 2017 and she’s up for reelection this year. She’ll reflect on her first term and plans for the next.

Several other smart Democrats are running for the May 2019 local elections, and we’ll hear from them, too.

See you there and bring a friend!

State of the Union/Democratic Response Watch Party

2019-SOTU.002

Now that his $11 billion tantrum/shutdown is over, our “very stable genius” has accepted the invitation from Speaker Pelosi to give his State of the Union address on Tuesday night.

We’ll be watching, playing SOTU bingo, and cheering on Stacey Abram’s Democratic response.

Your $5 suggested donation will support our 2020 wins.

See you Tuesday night! Bring your bingo dauber, and bring a friend.

New Year, New #TXLege

New Year, New #TXLege—Education, Taxes, and Gun Violence Prevention

It’s a New Year and a new Texas Legislature!

With so many extremists sent home in November, there’s opportunity for Texans to support good legislation to invest in our students and educators, to lessen high-stakes/high-cost testing, while reducing local property taxes when the legislature pays its fair share of public education. It’s also time to make our schools and communities safer by passing common sense gun laws like red flag laws and universal background checks. Unfortunately, HD 92’s current Texas State Representative is promoting his guns everywhere/for anyone bill again. Find out what you can do to defeat it.

At our January meeting our guest speakers are Mike Sexton, Legislative Advocacy Chair for the GCISD Council of PTAs, and Carolyn Daniel for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. They’ll tell us which bills to support, which to oppose, and how.

DecemberSocial2017.001

Join new and old friends for our annual holiday party celebrating what we’ve accomplished this year and looking ahead to the good work to come in 2019!

Your ticket includes your 2019 membership dues, two drinks, and a pizza dinner.

We have a lot to celebrate:

• Our members worked precincts to help elect Beverly Powell to SD 10 and narrow the gap in SD9
• Came VERY close to winning HD 92 by donating thousands of dollars, providing branding and digital support and advertising, dedicated phone banks, post card writing, lit preparation and more. Steve Riddell’s campaign manager said, “The Mid-Cities Democrats hit way above their weight.”
• Promoted five local candidates to HEB councils—three won
• Hosted the TX-24 Congressional Democratic Primary forum
• Kicked off Mike Collier for Lt. Governor’s statewide education and property tax reform tour
• Hosted the Gubernatorial Democratic forum and Chili Dinner
• And had a great time doing it!

What’s up next:
• Supporting good and stopping bad legislation coming from the next legislative session
• Helping Democrats run for local office for May 2019
• Filling vacant precincts; supporting current precinct chairs
• Fundraising for the 2020 campaign so that when candidates step forward, they can hit the ground running
