During the 2004 election year,
Democrats in northeast Tarrant County were a pretty rare species. In
fact, some people thought we were an endangered species. Precincts in
our part of the county voted overwhelmingly Republican. Over and
over, people would say to us, “I didn’t know there were any Democrats
here in ______ (fill in the blank: Bedford, Hurst, Euless,
Colleyville, Grapevine, Southlake,
Keller, Watauga, North Richland Hills, Richland Hills, Haltom City)”. Well, there are!! And, we set about to prove it.
The Mid-Cities Democrats want to:
-
Fill vacant precinct chairs in our
communities.
-
Help our precinct chairs organize
and activate Democrats in our communities.
-
Reach out to voters in our
communities via phone calls, mailings, and precinct parties.
-
Host Voter Registration tables at
local businesses and colleges in order to increase the Democratic
vote in local, county, state and national elections.
-
Promote Democratic and Progressive
values in our community through Letters to the Editor and other
media contacts and community activism (such as helping the Tarrant
Area Food Bank and participating in the Adopt-a-Highway program).
-
Raise visibility in our communities
for our organization and the Democratic Party in order to promote
greater participation in the election process by Democrats and
Progressives.
-
Work to get Democratic candidates
elected (hold fundraisers, go door-to-door prior to elections with
material for specific candidates asking for votes, actively
participate in campaigns).
Concentrating all Democratic efforts
on heavily-Democratic precincts in Fort Worth will not win county-wide
races. Democrats outside the Fort Worth city limits must pull their
share of the load. If you live in northeast Tarrant County and want to
be part of the solution instead of part of the problem, bring your
energy and your ideas and come join the Mid-Cities Democrats!! |
