Let There be Signs This Labor Day…

The Mid-Cities Democrats encourage you to help sprout signs this Labor Day weekend in HD-96 and HD-93! The Rep. Chris Turner and Rep. Paula Pierson re-election campaigns will be conducting various activities around putting up yard signs this Labor Day weekend. If you are in town and able to assist please consider participating in one of the following, if not both, activities:

Tomorrow, September 1st @ 6:30PM-8:00PM, Chris Turner campaign sign assembly party. This activity will take place at 5850 W. I-20, Suite 130 in Arlington. Click here for a map. Dinner will be provided.

Saturday, September 4th, beginning at noon, Paula Pierson campaign yard sign distribution. This activity will take place at 103 South Mesquite Street in Arlington. Click here for a map. This is a very easy activity in which you grab a route, deliver the sign, and move on to the next home/business.

The Mid-Cities Democrats invite you to join us this Thursday, August 26th, beginng at 7:00p.m. as we host the next First Lady of Texas, Andrea White. We will meet at the Spring Creek BBQ in Grapevine. Click here for a map.

Mid-Cities has had the pleasure of hosting the next Governor of Texas, Bill White, on three seperate occassions since 2007. This is the first time we’ve had the pleasure of hosting his wife. Andrea is a lawyer, award-winning author of children’s books, a fierce publilc education advocate, political spouse, and a mother of three wonderful children. We encourage you to read Andrea’s blog entitled “Passionate Supporter & Political Spouse” as well. Come on by and join us this Thursday!

2010 Jim Wright Scholarship Winner Announced

The Mid-Cities Democrats Executive Board and Jim Wright Scholarship Committee are proud to announce that John Sekamonyo is our 2010 Jim Wright Scholarship awardee.

Mr. Sekamonyo is an adult student at Tarrant County College and a Rwandan native. He is a single father of a 7-year-old boy. His community service (in Africa and the United States), coupled with his GED scores, impressed the scholarship committee. He was found to be a unique candidate and our scholarship is another step towards his achieving the American Dream.

Mr. Sekamonyo is completing course work towards a career in respiratory therapy, so that he can help save lives, improve health conditions of individuals and families.

Members of the Mid-Cities Democrats Executive Board and the scholarship committee met with Mr. Sekamonyo in late July over breakfast.

MCD Walks & Volunteers for Rep. Chris Turner

The Mid-Cities Democrats came out in force today once again with 11 volunteers working to re-elect Representative Chris Turner to the House District 96 seat he currently holds, along with walking for the next Governor of Texas, Bill White. Mid-Cities would like to thank the following volunteers for helping today:

Tari Bauer, Steve Warwick, Gabriela Garza de Warwick, Chris Utchell, Gwenn Burud, Ronni Katz, Jo Pierce, Jeanne Owers, Sameena Karma, Diane Hollingsworth and Todd Hill

Rep. Turner reported that well over 12,000 homes had been hit so far in the campaign. The Legislator of the Year by the Texas Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars has growing bi-partisan support for re-election. Mid-Cities is proud to work toward the re-election of Chris Turner and for the election of Bill White as Governor of Texas. Please consider joining us again as we walk for Rep. Paula Pierson, and defend our Golden Shoe Award, on Saturday, August 21st.

The next opportunity for us to make a difference this election cycle comes this Saturday, August 7th, as Mid-Cities walks to re-elect Rep. Chris Turner. Mid-Cities is committed to re-electing our Tarrant delegation back to Austin so that Bill White has allies in the legislature to pass an agenda that is good for Texas. Oh yeah, and re-districting too!

Candidate for Railroad Commissioner Addresses Mid-Cities Democrats

Tonights meeting of the Mid-Cities Democrats featured the Democratic candidate for Railroad Commissioner, Jeff Weems. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram has a nice article about Jeff’s comments before over 50 members and friends tonight. You can read more by clicking here.

In addition, the Representative Paula Pierson campaign brought cake to celebrate Mid-Cities having won the Golden Shoe award from last weekend’s Super Walk.

A big thanks to those who came out tonight and to those of you who thanked our former President, Dorie Cranshaw, for her tremendous service to the Mid-Cities Democrats.

MCD Wins Rep. Pierson Golden Shoe Award

The Mid-Cities Democrats won the prestigious Golden Shoe Award, presented by State Representative Paula Pierson’s re-election campaign, for having the most volunteers block walk today! A big thanks to the following 14 volunteers for representing MCD:

The Golden Shoe award is recognition for organizations and clubs who come out and block walk for the Paula Pierson re-election campaign. Previous winners include our brothers and sisters with the 360 Corridor Democratic Action Club and the Tarrant County Stonewall Democrats. What an honor it is to be included with such great organizations.

Now we must turnout for the next Rep. Chris Turner Mega Walk set for Saturday, August 7th. More details soon. Also, Rep. Paula Pierson will have another Super Walk on Saturday, August 21st, where MCD will need to DEFEND OUR GOLDEN SHOE AWARD!

July 2010 Meeting

Concerned citizens are invited to the next regular meeting of the Mid-Cities Democrats, Thursday July 22, to hear from Democratic candidate for Railroad Commissioner Jeff Weems. Despite its archaic and confusing name, the Railroad Commission regulates oil and gas production. Mr. Weems will discuss his candidacy and current hot button issues including Barnett Shale natural gas drilling and its effects on surrounding communities.

Members and guests are encouraged to arrive at the Bedford Spring Creek Barbecue Restaurant, 1509 Airport Freeway, early at 6:30 p.m. to move through the buffet line. Click here for a map. The meeting will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m.
